Miami Shores is a village with village police and streets that go quiet after dinner. Halloween here is a single-family house, a yard, and neighbors who know each other’s cars. If you rented for the weekend, you are the new car. Keep the show inside. Keep it short. I am not turning a Shores living room into a late-night problem for a block that walks its dogs at 9.
These houses have real rooms. Dining room, living room, a Florida room in back. Pick one and close the rest. A performer should not hunt the party through a floor plan. Put the group in the living room. Put the candy bowl on the porch and then take it in before we start.
Parking is on the street or a short driveway. Do not block a neighbor’s apron. Shores people will come outside about that before they come outside about music. Someone meets the car. Addresses hide in the trees along the boulevard side streets.
Group size that fits: eight to sixteen. A bigger list belongs somewhere with a bigger lot. This village is not Palmetto Bay. Lots are tidy, not huge. If you invited two friend groups, you already overflowed the sofa.
Trick-or-treat is a production here. Porch lights, kids, golf carts on some blocks. We wait until that is over. A costumed show during trick-or-treat hours is how you get the wrong knock. Tell me the hour the kids stop. Then we start.
Hotels are not the Shores product. If your group is actually in a tower on Biscayne just outside the village, say the city on the address line. I book the jurisdiction I am standing in. Village rules and city rules are not the same conversation.
Have the windows shut. Have the dog put away. Have a chair. Have the overheads down. These houses run bright lamps. Dim them. Have one person on the door so we are not explaining the booking to a neighbor who thought this was more candy.
Same-day Shores on Halloween is possible only if a house cancelled. Plan earlier. Call with the date and whether the porch will still be working candy when we arrive.
Biscayne is close and it is not the party. Do not send a performer to a boulevard address if the house is three blocks west in the grid. Village streets look the same at night. Text a pin and put a porch light on. If the village has extra patrols, that is a reason to keep the set inside, not a reason to skip the guest list at your own door.
Florida rooms are tempting. They are also thin walls and jalousies. Use the interior living room. Save the Florida room for drinks after. If you only have the Florida room, we keep the music down and we keep the time tight. That room was built for weather, not for volume, and not for a full set.
